Garden Candles for Those Warm Summer Nights

Why should we only use candles indoors?

No reason whatsoever. Candels are so versatile we can use them on our dining table, dinner candles now come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Place them around a room to give a gentle light when you want a restful evening or just use them as very decorative objects. These days we tend to think about our gardens as an extension of our indoor living space, a place to relax, have barbeques and sit at our patio tables to have a formal meal or sip a wine or whatever preferred tipple.

Garden TorchThere was a time and generation that though of a garden just as something that was pretty to look at, produced vegetables to supplement our diet but put to bed as the sun went down. Times have definitely changed and given reasonable weather we make the most of that precious outdoor space.

We work hard and spend money as well as time to achieve something that we should enjoy for as long as possible through those short summer months. For many of us, by the time we have done the daily commute and prepared the evening meal the sun has gone but the evening is still young and warm. Eating outside is the answer, enjoying the food, fresh air and the garden. All we need is something to light our patio and garden.

There are many alternatives these days. Electric lighting or solar powered lighting, coloured lights, spotlights to accentuate features or plants, Garden Torchfloodlights, we are spoiled for choice. But there is another way, garden candles. Have a garden candle on your patio table or use outdoor candle lanterns. Used outside candle lanterns can look very effective providing a soft flickering light that is very calming.

Citronella Pillar CandleOne drawback of eating in the open air on a summer evening can be insects. While we sit eating we offer ourselves as a tasty meal for those little pests. Insect repellent candles can be a great help. Provence insect repellent scented candles contain an aromatic blend of fresh Provencal herbs with extracts of lavender to naturally repel insects. They are obtainable as torches in both green and ivory, long burning pillar candles, tealights for standalone or use in outdoor candle lanterns, in a candle tin and even as a floating candle. Another fashionable option is to use a citronella candle and these are for outdoor use only where a Provence candle can also be used indoors. Citronella candles are available as long burning pillar candles or alternatively try the citronella tea light candles.

Be inventive, put a candel on your patio table, use outdoor candle lanterns, try garden torches mixing the colours or use those beautiful rich yellow citronella candels that look good enough to eat.
